The Auto Shop, introduced in Grand Theft Auto Online's (GTAO) Los Santos Tuners update of July 2021, redefined the title's vehicle-customisation and heist-contract loop, fusing import-tuner subculture with a mid-stakes robbery progression (Wikipedia, 2026a). With Grand Theft Auto VI (GTAVI) confirmed for 19 November 2026 and reporter Jason Schreier indicating it will feature "a significant online mode" akin to GTAO, the question of how the Auto Shop archetype will be reborn within Leonida's Florida-inspired sandbox has become central to community and journalist speculation (Wikipedia, 2026b; Schreier, 2022). This report surveys the Los Santos Tuners Auto Shop, its post-launch evolution through Hao's Special Works and The Chop Shop, and projects the most plausible successor businesses in GTAVI Online.
Los Santos Tuners arrived on 20 July 2021 and centred on the LS Car Meet, a Cypress Flats warehouse hub for car enthusiasts, street races, and underground modification culture, alongside the Auto Shop property purchasable in five locations across Los Santos (Wikipedia, 2026a). Coordinated by mechanics Sessanta and Kenny "KDJ" Dixon Jr. - the latter voiced by Detroit producer Moodymann - the Auto Shop introduced two parallel income streams: customer delivery contracts, in which players modify and deliver client vehicles for variable payouts, and six multi-stage robbery contracts (Union Depository, Superdollar Deal, ECU Job, Prison Contract, Agency Deal, Bank Contract, and the Data Contract) designed to be tackled by one to four players (Tassi, 2021). The update also added the LS Car Meet membership system, prize-ride challenges, test-drive vehicles, and a reputation-tier rewards path, which IGN's Matt Purslow characterised as "more accessible than the heist structure" that had dominated GTAO since 2015 (Purslow, 2021).
When GTAO launched as a standalone PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S product on 15 March 2022, the enhanced version introduced Hao's Special Works, an LS Car Meet sub-facility operated by returning racer Hao that performs elite next-generation upgrades on a curated set of vehicles, providing performance gains exclusive to the current-generation platforms (Wikipedia, 2026a). The vehicle-centric business design was further extended by The Chop Shop update in December 2023, which added a salvage yard operated alongside Liberty City real estate developer Yusuf Amir and his cousin Jamal, used as a front to plan and execute Robberies Contracts targeting valuable cars (Wikipedia, 2026a). The lineage thus exhibits a clear design pattern: a fixed property, an NPC operations team, repeatable contracts, and a vehicle-customisation or theft loop tied to a wider subcultural scene. Money Fronts (2025) most recently expanded the "legitimate-business-as-front" template, signalling Rockstar's continued investment in property-and-contract verticals (Wikipedia, 2026a).
GTAVI's setting in the state of Leonida, including Vice City, Grassrivers, the Leonida Keys, and Port Gellhorn, provides distinct thematic affordances for an Auto Shop successor (Wikipedia, 2026b). Florida's real-world car culture - encompassing the South Florida import-tuner scene, JDM and Euro-spec exotics, custom donk and box-Chevy lowriders, and the cigarette-boat and powersports communities of the Keys - offers a richer canvas than Los Santos's predominantly West Coast tuner aesthetic (Tassi, 2021). A plausible successor would relocate the LS Car Meet template into a Vice City warehouse district, replacing KDJ's Detroit techno curation with Miami bass, reggaeton, or Latin trap to reflect Leonida's confirmed musical satire (Wikipedia, 2026b). Confirmed character Brian Heder, "a longtime drug runner in the Keys" and Jason Duval's landlord, hints at maritime tuning verticals (custom Donk hydraulics, marine engines, smuggler-spec vehicles) that have no direct GTAO analogue (Wikipedia, 2026b).
The Auto Shop's two-track structure - customer contracts plus robbery contracts - is highly likely to persist, as it neatly bridges the casual customisation player and the heist-oriented player. Continuity expectations include: a property-purchase entry point at a mid-tier price; an NPC operations duo replacing Sessanta and KDJ; a sequential robbery-contract progression unlocked by reputation; and customer-delivery jobs as low-friction filler content. Likely innovations include integration with confirmed satirical social-media systems, where customer contracts may be sourced via in-game apps parodying TikTok or Instagram, and the influencer culture Rockstar has confirmed it will satirise (Wikipedia, 2026b). Given Tom Henderson's reporting that the map may evolve "akin to Fortnite", new Auto Shop locations and contract pools could be released as expansions over time (Wikipedia, 2026b).
The Los Santos Tuners Auto Shop represents one of GTAO's most successful late-cycle business archetypes, balancing customisation, heists, and social hub design. Its successor in GTAVI Online is effectively certain given the proven template, Rockstar's reliance on recurrent property-driven monetisation, and the thematic fit between Florida car culture and tuner gameplay. The most probable form is a Vice City Auto Shop fused with Keys-based maritime customisation, operated by new Leonida-native NPCs, supporting both customer contracts and a mid-stakes robbery progression - itself likely augmented by social-media-app job-sourcing and an evolving, expansion-friendly map.
