Crew Garages

Crew Garages

Overview

The concept of "Crew Garages" in the Grand Theft Auto Online ecosystem refers to the shared and semi-shared vehicle storage and customisation spaces that allow members of a Crew - Rockstar Games' formal social grouping introduced after Max Payne 3 - to congregate, display vehicles, and prepare for cooperative criminal activity (GTA Wiki, 2024; Rockstar Games, 2024). While Grand Theft Auto Online does not currently expose a literal "Crew Garage" property type in the in-game property menu, the function of a shared crew garage is fulfilled by a combination of features: Motorcycle Club Clubhouses with their vehicle bays, CEO/VIP Offices linked to Vehicle Warehouses, the LS Car Meet members-only floor, Auto Shops, and apartment garages whose contents can be admired by invited crew-mates (Wikipedia, 2025; GTA Wiki, 2024). The anticipation around Grand Theft Auto VI has reignited community discussion about whether Rockstar will finally formalise a dedicated, persistent, crew-branded garage space - a feature long requested on the Rockstar Games Social Club forums and on the r/gtaonline subreddit (Tassi, 2022).

Background: What a Crew Is

Crews in GTA Online are persistent player organisations of up to 1,000 members (Rockstar-created crews have no cap) with a defined hierarchy of Leader, Commissioners, Lieutenants, Representatives, and Muscle (GTA Wiki, 2024). A player can belong to a maximum of five crews simultaneously, with one designated as their "active" crew. Crew branding - colour, four-character tag, and emblem - propagates to vehicles when applied at Los Santos Customs or Benny's Original Motor Works, which is the principal mechanism by which any garage becomes visually identifiable as a "crew" garage (GTA Wiki, 2024). Crew colours can be sprayed onto cars and motorcycles, and the crew emblem can be applied to vehicle hoods, doors, and even tattooed onto the protagonist's skin (GTA Wiki, 2024).

Functional Shared Garage Spaces

Motorcycle Club Clubhouses

The Bikers update of October 2016 introduced the closest analogue to a true crew garage: the MC Clubhouse, which contains a 10-bike garage and adjoining customisation bay (Wikipedia, 2025). Up to eight MC members - typically drawn from the leader's crew roster - can congregate inside, host meetings, and store motorcycles in the shared bay. This effectively converts the clubhouse into a de facto crew motorcycle garage (Wikipedia, 2025).

CEO Offices and Vehicle Warehouses

The Further Adventures in Finance and Felony (2016) and Import/Export (2016) updates added Executive Offices with attached garage space and dedicated 40-slot Vehicle Warehouses for CEOs and their hired Associates (Wikipedia, 2025). Associates are commonly recruited from the CEO's crew, making the warehouse a working communal stable of high-end vehicles destined for Export missions (Wikipedia, 2025).

LS Car Meet and Auto Shops

The Los Santos Tuners update (July 2021) added the LS Car Meet, a members-only underground hub where crews routinely gather, display test vehicles in personal showcase slots, and run private races (Wikipedia, 2025). The accompanying Auto Shop property functions as a service-bay garage where contracted jobs can be planned with up to three other players, again typically crew-mates.

Apartment, Penthouse, and Arcade Garages

Standard high-end apartments include 10-car garages, while Executive Penthouses, the Master Penthouse at the Diamond Casino, and Arcade properties (Diamond Casino Heist, 2019) include further storage and gathering rooms that invited crew members can enter to inspect the host's collection (Wikipedia, 2025).

Crew Garage Etiquette and Use

Community guides note that competitive crews use these shared spaces for three principal activities: matching liveries before crew battles, pre-heist staging, and content creation for the Rockstar Editor (Tassi, 2022). Because vehicles in another player's garage cannot be driven away by visitors without the owner's "Mors Mutual" claim transfer, true shared ownership remains absent - a recurring criticism of the current implementation (Tassi, 2022).

Implications for GTA VI

Industry commentary speculates that Grand Theft Auto VI, set in the state of Leonida, will expand the social architecture of Online by formalising shared crew property, potentially including a literal crew-owned garage with multi-user vehicle access (Tassi, 2022; Rockstar Games, 2024). Such a feature would address one of the longest-standing wishlist items in the GTA Online community and provide a natural home for crew-branded fleets.
