Nightclubs are central to Miami's cultural identity and, by extension, to the fictional Vice City of Grand Theft Auto VI. Rockstar Games' upcoming title, set in the Miami-inspired Vice City within the state of Leonida, is widely expected to satirise and reproduce the city's globally renowned nightlife economy (Rockstar Games, 2025). Real-world Miami clubs such as LIV at the Fontainebleau and E11EVEN Miami are widely cited as cultural reference points for what players are likely to encounter in the game's depiction of South Beach, Downtown and Ocean View Drive (BBC News, 2025). This report surveys the principal real-world venues, their cultural footprint, and assesses the likely role of nightclubs as both backdrops and interactive locations in GTA VI.
LIV, founded in 2008 by hospitality entrepreneur David Grutman and located at 4441 Collins Avenue inside the Fontainebleau Miami Beach, is one of the highest-grossing nightclubs in the United States (Wikipedia, 2025a). The 19,000-square-foot, two-storey venue, with a maximum capacity of 1,100 patrons, is enclosed by an 80-foot dome housing 870 individually controllable light fixtures, with a $10 million 2016 renovation adding "The Spider" — a steel truss containing 400 LED screens. By 2011 LIV was already ranked the seventh-highest-grossing nightclub in the US and the second-best in the world according to Reuters; its weekly hip-hop residency "LIV on Sunday" — nicknamed "church" in the rap community — has been celebrated in tracks by Ace Hood, Meek Mill and Lil Wayne, and was inducted as a cultural institution by the Miami Herald (Smalls, 2023; Wikipedia, 2025a).
E11EVEN Miami, opened on 5 February 2014 at 29 NE 11th Street in downtown Miami, is a 20,000-square-foot "ultraclub" — a hybrid nightclub and strip club — open 24 hours a day, seven days a week (Wikipedia, 2025b). In November 2025 it was ranked the best nightclub in the United States and the sixth best worldwide by the International Nightlife Association (Rosario, 2025). In April 2021 E11EVEN became the first major American nightclub to accept Bitcoin, and a 649-foot residential tower carrying the brand is under construction immediately adjacent. The club has hosted Drake, Rihanna, Post Malone, Diplo, Marshmello and the Florida Panthers' Stanley Cup celebrations, with the team famously incurring a reported $500,000 bar tab in June 2025 (Trainor, 2025).
Beyond LIV and E11EVEN, Miami's club ecosystem includes Club Space — a legendary techno venue with a sunrise terrace — Story Nightclub, and the bottle-service-heavy lounges of Brickell and Ocean Drive. Together they constitute what Time Out characterises as a "megaclub" template that has defined global nightlife since the late 2000s (Time Out, 2025).
The leaked September 2022 development footage explicitly depicted Lucia and Jason entering a strip club, confirming such venues are present in the game (MacDonald, 2022). Pre-release materials and the second trailer (May 2025) reveal districts modelled on South Beach and Downtown Miami, including neon-lit promenades evocative of Ocean Drive and Collins Avenue (BBC News, 2025). Industry analysts and the gaming press anticipate that Vice City will feature parodied analogues of LIV (likely as a Fontainebleau-style "Leaf" or "LUX" megaclub on the Vice Beach strip) and E11EVEN (a 24-hour downtown ultraclub). The character Boobie Ike, described by Rockstar as running "a business empire in Vice City", and Dre'Quan Priest's record label Only Raw Records strongly imply nightlife and music-industry gameplay loops, potentially including DJ sets, club ownership missions, money-laundering side activities and celebrity cameos — building on the club-management mechanics introduced in GTA Online's After Hours update (Rockstar Games, 2025). Rockstar's history of parodying real venues (e.g. Tony's Paradise Club and the Malibu Club in GTA: Vice City) makes near-direct pastiches highly probable.
Nightclubs in Vice City function on three levels: as visual spectacle (neon, palms, art-deco facades), as economic engines for protagonists' criminal enterprises, and as satirical commentary on influencer culture, conspicuous consumption and the celebrity-industrial complex that Rockstar has confirmed as central themes (Wikipedia, 2025c). Given Miami's real-world status as the de facto nightlife capital of the Americas, clubs are likely to anchor mission design, radio integration and the social fabric of the game world.
