On 6 November 2025, just one hour after Rockstar Games announced that Grand Theft Auto VI had been delayed from May 2026 to 19 November 2026, the topic was raised on the floor of the Polish Sejm (the lower house of Poland's parliament). Witold Tumanowicz, a Member of Parliament for the constituency of Chełm representing the far-right Confederation Liberty and Independence coalition and its National Movement (Ruch Narodowy) faction, took the rostrum and, with a thinly veiled smile, declared the delay "a huge scandal" and suggested that "if people don't take to the streets after something like this, I don't know what will happen." The clip was uploaded to the r/GTA6 subreddit by user Tjudool, went viral on X (formerly Twitter), and was picked up by major international gaming outlets, becoming one of the most prominent illustrations to date of how thoroughly GTA 6 marketing — and even its setbacks — have penetrated mainstream political discourse (Lane, 2025; Ontañón Docal, 2025; RockstarINTEL, 2025).
Rockstar Games' announcement on 6 November 2025 was the second formal delay of GTA VI in twelve months. The official statement framed the slip as necessary to give the team "extra months [to] finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve" (Ontañón Docal, 2025). The use of the word "polish" in the announcement quickly generated meme content online — a coincidence not lost on commentators given that the next major government to publicly comment on the delay would be Poland itself.
Within sixty minutes of the announcement, the matter had reached the Sejm's plenary chamber. According to multiple reports, Tumanowicz raised the issue during the segment of the parliamentary day reserved for short MP statements (oświadczenia poselskie), a portion of proceedings traditionally used for constituency matters and announcements (IGN Polska, 2025; wPolityce, 2025).
Addressing the speaker and chamber, Tumanowicz delivered the following statement, reconstructed from the viral video and translated by English-language outlets:
"Madam speaker, honorable members, as part of my parliamentary statement, I wanted to inform you about a very disturbing matter. An hour ago, Rockstar Games announced that the release of GTA 6 will be postponed until next year. This is a huge scandal. Frankly, if people don't take to the streets after something like this, I don't know what will happen." (Lane, 2025)
Polish-language coverage notes that Tumanowicz misstated the length of the delay, claiming the game had been pushed back by a full year when in fact the slip was approximately six months — from May to November 2026 (wPolityce, 2025). The remark drew laughter from sections of the chamber. Paweł Szrot, an MP from the right-wing Law and Justice (PiS) party, replied dryly from the chair: "I respect such statements, Representative" (Lane, 2025).
The clip's path to virality followed a now-familiar pattern for GTA 6-adjacent content. A Polish Reddit user posted the Sejm footage to r/GTA6, where it accumulated tens of thousands of upvotes within hours (Ontañón Docal, 2025; RockstarINTEL, 2025). From there, gaming-focused accounts on X amplified the clip with English subtitles, and within 72 hours the story had been written up by GamesRadar, PC Gamer, Gamereactor, IGN Polska, Spider's Web, and a number of smaller outlets.
English-language coverage tended to highlight three things: the surreal optics of a national legislature discussing a video game delay; the political profile of the Confederation party, which PC Gamer described as a "radical right-wing" grouping that "opposes the EU, is sceptical of climate change, and has been known to call homosexuality a 'disease'" (Lane, 2025); and the ironic intersection between Rockstar's stated reason for the delay (additional "polish") and the nationality of the politician raising it. Memes built around the word "polish" — including "the game needs some more polish and these guys got lost in translation" and "ah so that's why the extra 6 month polishing" — circulated widely on Reddit and X (Ontañón Docal, 2025).
Polish coverage was less amused. Outlets including Spider's Web and IGN Polska framed the speech as an example of an MP using parliamentary time for self-promotion via internet-friendly content, with Spider's Web's headline asking whether it was "clowning around or sigma" (Spider's Web, 2025). The conservative outlet wPolityce ran the more neutral framing of an "absurd scene in the Sejm" (wPolityce, 2025).
From a marketing perspective, the Sejm episode is significant for what it cost Rockstar: nothing. The publisher spent zero złoty to have its product discussed by name in a sovereign national parliament, captured on the parliament's own broadcast cameras, and then redistributed worldwide through earned media. Several characteristics make the moment a useful case study in unintentional, third-party-amplified marketing:
For Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar, the episode reinforced a pattern visible across the GTA 6 pre-release campaign: the franchise's cultural footprint is now large enough that delays generate as much earned media coverage as new trailers. As PC Gamer observed, GTA 6's gravitational pull is now "stretching beyond the confines of gaming" (Lane, 2025).
Tumanowicz's intervention also has to be read in domestic Polish political terms. The Confederation party has actively courted younger, male, internet-native voters since its founding, and gaming-adjacent content has been one of its identifiable communications channels. Several Polish commentators interpreted the Sejm speech less as a sincere complaint about a game delay and more as a calculated bid for engagement with a demographic that already votes Confederation at above-average rates (Spider's Web, 2025). Whether the calculation worked is debatable — domestic Polish response was mixed and mocking in places — but the international viral coverage almost certainly exceeded what Tumanowicz could have achieved with a more conventional statement.
The Polish Sejm reference to GTA 6 stands as one of the clearest illustrations of the game's mainstream cultural reach prior to its November 2026 release. A single one-minute parliamentary statement, delivered with a wink by a junior far-right MP, produced multi-day international gaming press coverage, tens of millions of social-media impressions, and a self-perpetuating meme cycle built on the word "polish." For Rockstar, it represents free, globally distributed, politically endorsed proof that GTA 6 is no longer merely a video game launch but a geopolitical-cultural event whose every delay reverberates well beyond the gaming press.
